How Waterless Urinals Work

In general, waterless urinal technology works on the same principle: gravity. Some have cartridges, some don't. Those that don't work with inserts into the drain, or a built in p-trap.

Waterless urinals connect to a standard drain pipe that requires no incoming water connection.

Waterless urinals are odor-free. They use a liquid odor barrier, or sealant, that prevents the migration of odor into the restroom.

Waterless urinals save water. All water associated with the flushing process is eliminated. This also ensures that there are no leaks, no wasted water and no flush valves that may require maintenance.

Waterless urinals also save money and the environment. Without mechanical parts, mechanical maintenance is eliminated. There are no harsh chemicals or batteries to change, so elimination of environmental contaminants is not a concern. This also includes the reduction of greenhouse gases. According to the Pacific Institute, every billion gallons of water saved avoids the generation of 18 million pounds of CO2. Water transport and treatment is an energy intensive process.

Finally, waterless urinals ensure a cleaner restroom. There are no plumbing emergencies, and no airborne bacteria spreading from flush plumes which ensures a healthier environment for you and your customers!
